Cookie Policy

These are required for the portal to work and are set for everyone who signs in. They cannot be switched off without breaking sign-in.

• Authentication cookies (names prefixed sb-, set by our Supabase authentication service) — keep your session signed in as you move between pages and refresh your login securely. They are persistent for up to 400 days, may be refreshed while you use the service, and are removed when you sign out or the session expires.

These remember choices or information you ask the portal to retain. They are not used for advertising:

• Marketplace preference (athena_marketplace cookie) — remembers whether an eligible account last viewed the UK or US marketplace for up to one year.
• Cart storage (athena-cart in browser local storage) — keeps your UK and US baskets on this device until you place the order, remove the items, or clear site data.
• Portal display preferences — local-storage entries remember catalog view mode and whether you dismissed a marketplace notice until you change the choice or clear site data.
• Referral attribution (athena_referral in browser local storage) — remembers the first valid partner code used on this device for up to 90 days so a verified trade application can be credited to the correct partner. It is functional attribution, not advertising tracking, and stores only the code and capture time.
• Analytics choice (athena-analytics-consent in local storage) — remembers whether you allowed or declined analytics until you change the choice below or clear site data. If the information collected by optional analytics changes materially, we ask you to confirm again before enabling the new collection; an earlier decline remains declined.

All of the following start only after you choose Accept on the cookie banner (or below), and none of them is used before that choice:

• PostHog analytics — helps us understand which pages and features are used so we can improve the portal. PostHog stores identifiers in cookies and browser storage (names prefixed ph_) for up to one year. For signed-in customers, usage data is linked to an opaque account user ID. When you use catalog search, the exact term you enter, the catalog, marketplace and number of results are recorded. We do not add your account email to analytics profiles or events, but a search event will contain any personal information you choose to type into the search box.
• Google Ads conversion measurement (Google tag, cookies prefixed _gcl) — tells us when a visit that started from one of our Google ads leads to an account application or an order, so we know which ads work. We use it for conversion measurement only: ad personalisation and remarketing signals are switched off in how we configure the tag, and we honour Google’s Consent Mode so nothing is stored before you allow it.
• Campaign attribution (athena_attribution in browser local storage) — records how you first reached the site so we can tell which campaigns lead to account applications and orders. It holds the ad-click identifier a search or social network adds to the link it sends you through (gclid from Google, fbclid from Meta, msclkid from Microsoft), the allowlisted campaign tags in the web address (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content), the pathname of the page you landed on, and the origin of the site that referred you. Query strings and referrer paths are not retained. Your first visit wins and is kept for 90 days. Nothing is written to your device before you accept, and the entry is deleted as soon as you reject below or clear site data.

To be clear about what the section above does involve: if you accept optional cookies and you arrived from one of our ads, an ad-click identifier is stored on your device as part of campaign attribution. We use it to connect our own ads to activity on this site.

We do not use it to build cross-site advertising profiles or remarketing audiences, we do not switch on ad personalisation, and we do not sell data collected through any of these technologies. Nothing here is stored before you consent, and declining removes it.

• Browser settings — every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, per site or entirely, and most can block third-party storage. Check your browser’s privacy settings.
• What blocking does — blocking optional analytics has no effect on your account. Blocking essential authentication storage will stop you from signing in; clearing functional storage resets the saved cart and display preferences on that device.
